Acrylic Paintings

I came to acrylic paints after first painting with watercolours for a bit. I found myself wanting MORE colour. I was also using up my watercolour paints quickly, as I wasn’t adding water to get the results I wanted. I do truly love the delicate softness and subtle blending of watercolours, but I also greatly appreciate variety in my artistic process, and acrylics provide me with exactly that dynamic range and versatility.

Snowy River

7” x 4.75” Acrylic Painting

February 2025

As the evening turned dark blue and the snow began to fall, you could just make sight of the dance in the distance. At first, the clouds took the lead with a swirl and a whirl of wintery white. With a splash, the snowy river followed with a swish and a swirl and so the dance began.

Visions of a Wheat Field

5.75” x 5.5” Acrylic Painting

July 2025

This is one of those times when you have a vision come into your head and it wants to be expressed. I was trying to paint with only one colour and white as an exercise. As I came to yellow I thought, what could I paint with just yellow? All of a sudden a wheat filed in the warm summer sun came to mind. I was able to sit and paint my vision in one sitting, which rarely happens. I still feel the warmth of the sun when I look at this piece.

Fall Colours

8” x 6” Acrylic Painting

October 2025

Autumn is my favourite season and always inspires me. Trees are one thing I have been drawing and painting since I was a little girl. So put the two together with the vibrant acrylic paint and I am a happy painter.

Cabin in the Woods

11.25” x 8.25” Acrylic Painting

October 2025

This was my first painting that I completely painted over. My original idea just wasn’t working out for me, so I painted the canvas over and did a repaint with Bob Ross as my guide. In the end we have a cozy cabin in the woods on a summer evening.

Snowy Night

11.25” x 8.25” Acrylic Painting

December 2024

This was my first acrylic painting and my first time painting on canvas. I had watched some videos and had some ideas, but as I had never worked with the paint before, it soon turned into a brown mess. I wasn’t sure if I could fix the mess. I kept going as unlike watercolour, I could paint over the dried paint very effectively, which was fun to learn. Soon a snowy landscape emerged and a river of liquid hot magma. Sure, why not.
